IMPACT Person: Anantha Shekhar, M.D., Ph.D, Associate Dean for Translational Research, the Raymond E. At the Board of Trustees meeting on September 18th, 2008, President McRobbie announced a $1 million President's University Diversity Initiative. Indiana University School of Social Work Professor William Barton was given a national award Sept. 24th for his outstanding contributions to juvenile detention reform.

The award was presented the Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative National Inter-Site Conference at the Marriott Hotel in Indianapolis.

The announcement of the award at a packed ballroom luncheon caught Barton by surprise. His shoulders jerked back when he heard his name announced.
