Correction: A story in the Sept. 5, 2008, edition of Inside IUPUI incorrectly named a department operating a second global electric motorcar (GEM) on the IUPUI Campus. The article should have said that a second environmentally green vehicle is operated by HELPnet Technology Services, a division of SPEA.

The Games Live On
In 2001, 10,000 police officers and firefighters assembled in Indianapolis for the World Police & Fire Games. This celebration of "Heroes in the Heartland" offered the people of Indiana a unique opportunity to appreciate the brave public servants who serve and protect their communities, said Kenna Quinet, associate professor of Criminal Justice, Law and Public Safety, in the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI.
"The world class competition, the international camaraderie and the positive image for public safety are legacies of the Games that will be long-lasting," she said. In the spirit of this excellence and commitment to our public safety professionals, in 2004, the Games established a scholarship at IUPUI. This fund awards scholarships to full-time or retired firefighters and police who wish to pursue their education, she noted.
