More than 30,000 students are attending IUPUI, setting an enrollment record that breaks through a barrier the campus has flirted with for years.

The enrollment of 30,300 students was, for the IUPUI community, the equivalent of the first time an athlete ran a mile under four minutes. Last year, 29,854 students attended IUPUI.

While the set-up in Engineering and Science Building, Room SL 185, might appear to be an upscale arcade game, the chopped Ford Focus is no toy - and its drivers aren't out for virtual joyrides.

The cut-up car is the centerpiece of the Driving Simulator Lab, part of the Transportation Active Safety Institute at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Known as TASI, the institute's mission is to advance the development of the next generation of safety measures, devices and protocols to significantly impact automobile safety.

Drew Appleby, a professor of Psychology at IUPUI, has been named a Psi Chi Distinguished member by the Psi Chi National Council. Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology.

Presentation of the honor occurred at the American Psychological Association Conference in Boston, MA on August 14, 2008, immediately before Appleby presented the 2008 Distinguished Psi Chi Lecture. This honor has been bestowed upon only 30 psychologists since its inception in 1970, and is awarded "for outstanding contributions to the field of psychology and for devoted and conscientious efforts toward achieving the purpose of Psi Chi."
