Student Applications Show Double-Digit Increase

IUPUI sophomore guard John Ashworth has checked in nightly as he and members of the IUPUI men's basketball team make a 12-day goodwill trip to Peru. In conjunction with Samaritan's Feet, Coach Ron Hunter, along with Ashworth and other members of the men's basketball team, made the trip to Peru to take shoes and other items to poverty stricken parts of Peru. Photographer Brian Drumm has documented the trip through a camera lens.

Woodruff: Fowl Impressions

Herron School of Art and Design is pleased to announce that "Freak Parade," 32 works of art by renowned artist Thomas Woodruff, will be on exhibit at the Eleanor Prest Reese and Robert B. Berkshire Galleries from Aug. 8 through Oct. 4, 2008.

Woodruff brings peculiarity, oddity, and absurdity to life with his rhinestone embellished mixed media images. Exploring what it means to be a freak in an age of conformity, "Freak Parade" draws the viewer into Woodruff's anthropomorphic world.

Born in 1957, Thomas Woodruff has exhibited his work throughout the United States and Australia. He is included in the collections of the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth, and the Contemporary Museum, Honolulu. The National Art Museum of Sport (NAMOS) at University Place Conference Center and Hotel on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus is focusing on the Olympics in a new exhibit of work from its permanent collection.

The exhibit, "The National Art Museum of Sport and the Olympics," opens Friday (Aug. 1, 2008), a week before the 2008 games begin in Beijing, China, and will close Sept. 7, 2008.

IUPUI Opens Additional Off-Campus Housing, Taking New Applications for Fall 2008

Due to additional new housing spaces off-campus, the IUPUI housing department is now accepting new applications for the fall 2008 semester.

On July 25, 2008, the Office of Housing and Residence Life at IUPUI and the campus leadership arranged for additional "overflow" student housing at the Candlewood Suites Indianapolis City Centre, located near the IUPUI campus.

A Blackhawk helicopter at the 2007 IUPUI Public Safety Career Day

Blackhawk and Bell Jet Ranger helicopters, bomb-dismantling robots, police SWAT vehicles, ambulances and fire trucks will be among the attractions when Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis observes its second annual Public Safety Career Day on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008.

The event, from noon to 3 p.m. on Aug. 11 in the courtyard of Joseph T. Taylor Hall (formerly University College), 815 W. Michigan St., is designed to give students and the community a chance to meet with representatives of public safety agencies from around the state and to get a close-up look at equipment used in the public safety field.
