IUPUI Student Housing: "Filled to the Brim"

Campus Housing

Campus Housing

If Housing at IUPUI was a motel, it would flip on its red neon no-vacancy sign.

With all 1,100 beds now assigned to students, IUPUI has stopped accepting new applications for housing for the 2008-09 academic year, said Vicky Pasternak, Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life.

"Campus housing is filled to the brim" Pasternak said.

Last year was the first year since apartment-style housing was built at IUPUI in 2003 that student housing was 100 percent full, she noted. This year, student housing was full by the end of June, compared to August a year ago.

Division Name Changes from Administration and Finance to Finance and Administration

Dawn Rhodes, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, at IUPUI has announced several changes regarding the operation of the division she oversees, including its name.

Effective July 1, 2008, Rhodes announced the name of the division changed to "Finance and Administration" (F&A). "While we want to pay tribute to those who have gone before us, I would like a clear demarcation of a change in leadership. I believe simply switching the two words accomplishes both. It will take some time for various publications to reflect this, but I encourage you to begin your department transition now," she said.

School of Science professors at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis have opened their research labs to area high school students as part of an effort to encourage more young people to pursue careers in science and mathematics. They are faculty mentors of the Project SEED Summer Research program sponsored by the Indiana section of the American Chemical Society.

Informatics Graduate Gains High Profile Among Global Web Development Community; Launches Software Development Company
Sandosh Vasudevan

Sandosh Vasudevan

For Sandosh Vasudevan the word "leisure" doesn't necessarily compute. That's because Vasudevan - a native of India who came to IUPUI for graduate school - seemingly spends every waking moment developing software applications, projects that are turning heads in Silicon Valley and beyond.

Last summer, Vasudevan, 25, completed an internship with Web portal giant Yahoo!, where he created a Web analytics extension to Firefox for use by the company's programmers and engineers. On weekends, Sandosh developed a movie selection widget for Yahoo! Widget Engine. It was judged a "must ship with widget," the top such ranking among Yahoo! intern projects.
