The Time, It is a-changing
Daylight Saving Time (DST) will end at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007. Remember to set your clocks back one hour.
Telephones, cell phones and pagers may also need to be changed.
Anyone that has a Meridian (M5300 series) Business Set that displays the time and date will need to manually reset their telephone to display the correct time before leaving work on Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, or upon arrival following the time change.

Two Appearances by Talat S. Halman, Bilkent University, Turkey
Talat S. Halman, famous Turkish poet, translator, and cultural historian, will visit IUPUI November 12 and 13. The first appointed Minister of Culture in Turkey, he has taught at Columbia University, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, and New York University, where he also served as Chairman of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Literatures. Currently he is the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Letters at Bilkent University.

IUPUI Receives $749,933 National Science Foundation Grant for Science Teacher Education Program
Science educators in the School of Science and the IU School of Education at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) have announced that they have been awarded one of 16 competitive National Science Foundation (NSF) Robert Noyce Scholarship grants to encourage undergraduate science students to become high school or middle school teachers. The 4-year grant will fund scholarships worth up to $12,200 per year for up to two years to 30 students in the School of Science in an attempt to meet the statewide demand for science teachers in Indiana. Noyce Scholars commit to teaching at least two years in an urban or high-need school district after graduation.

IUPUI to Host Native American Heritage Month Events
IUPUI will kick off its celebration of November as Native American Heritage Month with an informal reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, in Room 115 of University College.
The reception, sponsored by the Native American Student Alliance (NASA) and Campus & Community Life (CCL), includes discussion of upcoming events and programs focused on Native Americans.

An infusion of Commitment to Excellence funds will produce a substantial expansion and a marked improvement of the currently ongoing Norman Brown Diversity and Leadership Scholars Program (NBDLP) at IUPUI. Philanthropy Leaders to Receive Honorary Degrees
As a part of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University's 20th Anniversary Celebration, Indiana University President Michael McRobbie will award Indiana University's highest honor, an honorary degree, to three national and international nonprofit sector leaders during a special academic convocation November 5th in Indianapolis.
The honorees (left to right, above) are Dr. Emmett D. Carson, CEO and President of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, Patty Stonesifer, CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Dr. Juree Vichit-Vadakan, Chairperson of the Center for Philanthropy and Civil Society at the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) in Thailand.
