NIH Funds Oral Health Research Institute Study of Dental Sealants
Dental sealants have long been an effective tool in preventive dentistry, and their use through school-based initiatives such as the Indiana University School of Dentistry's statewide SEAL INDIANA program has helped bring low-cost preventive care to underserved populations at high risk for dental disease.
However, methods are needed to ensure that if the surfaces of the teeth are covered by dental sealants, they can continue to be reliably monitored for the development and/or progression of dental caries (decay).

New York Times Online Project Uses Professor's Second Research-to-Commercial Venture
For the second time in his career at an Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), a professor's laboratory research has gone commercial.
In Late August, the first of Professor Ali Jafari's commercial ventures, ANGEL Learning, Inc., announced plans to more than double its workforce to about 200 programmers, analysts and sales/marketing personnel and relocate to new offices in Indianapolis' INTECH Park.
Today (Sept. 6, 2007), The New York Times introduced a new online initiative that allows college and university faculty to pair The Times articles, graphics, videos, webcasts and other content with course materials and make them available online to students. The innovative program is a significant expansion of The New York Times Knowledge Network that has provided copies of the paper, accompanied by curriculum guides, to faculty for several years.

IUPUI Credit Hours Set Record, Numbers Reflect Changing Student Body
Numbers don't lie. And as the third week of classes begins at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), official enrollment figures tell the story of the continuing shift toward a more full-time student body.
Almost three-fourths of the undergraduate students on the IUPUI campus now are full-time, and campus-wide students are taking a record number of credit hours. Since 1996, credit hours, a measure of the number of courses students take, have increased 24 percent, while the number of students is up 11 percent. This reflects the increase in younger, more full-time students.
