IU East Interim Chancellor Named Today

Indiana University President Adam W. Herbert today announced the appointment of an interim successor for Indiana University East Chancellor David Fulton, who is retiring June 30. Herbert said that pending approval by the IU Board of Trustees during its June 22 meeting, Nasser H. Paydar, vice chancellor and dean of Indiana University Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC), will take over management of IU East as interim chancellor.

NMC (New Media Symposium) 2007 New Media Symposium Draws 400

More than 400 new media experts and specialists from across the country gathered at IUPUI this week for the annual New Media Consortium Summer Symposium.

Sessions and events were split between the Informatics and Communications Technology Complex (ICTC) and University Place Conference Center.

The event spotlighted new directions in 3-D technology and the explosive growth of "Second Life," one international version of a virtual world for visitors representing colleges and universities, museums and other learning-based organizations.

Two Informatics faculty received top honors for their creativity in the symposium's poster session. Susan Tennant earned "best of show" honors for her "Bridging the Virtual Divide" effort, while Beth Lykins was honored for "Seeing Sideways: The New Media Eye."

Sidewalk Closed Due to Construction; Detour to Vermont Street

As construction of the Campus Center and Cancer Center closes sidewalk sections along Michigan Street, pedestrians on the IUPUI campus should use Vermont Street to travel between University Boulevard and Barnhill Drive.

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, Hunt Construction will close the sidewalk along the south side of Michigan Street from University Boulevard west to the Vermont Street Garage. This sidewalk section will remain closed 14 days to allow for construction of a new sidewalk for the Campus Center building.

Foley Selected As Director of Admissions at IUPUI

Christopher J. Foley will become director of admissions at IUPUI, succeeding Michael Donahue, who is retiring. Foley, who will begin his new duties July 16, 2007, is chief of operations and director of international admissions at Indiana University Bloomington.

Matching Support for Certain Academic Conferences, Symposia Announced

The Office of Academic Affairs is pleased to announce matching support for academic conferences or symposia organized by faculty members or professional staff and convened in Indianapolis between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008. Awards will be made up to $1,500, if matched equally by the school or department.

Requests must predate the conference or symposium by at least one month. The Office of Academic Affairs will review submissions and make awards. Successful applicants will acknowledge IUPUI support in all publicity and in any publications resulting from the conference or symposium.

Brief proposals (not exceeding two pages) should be submitted with the completed application form...

Zorn Appointed Interim Dean of IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Chancellor Charles R. Bantz today announced the appointment of an interim successor for Astrid E. Merget, dean of the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA), pending approval by the IU Board of Trustees.

IUPUI University Library will host a reading of Janet Cheatham Bell's new memoir, The Time and Place That Gave Me Life, at 7 p.m., on Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High School. A book signing and a discussion with Bell, IUPUI faculty and other community representatives about the importance of preserving local neighborhood history will follow the reading.

"America's Favorite Survivor" Rupert Boneham (above) gave introductory remarks during the opening session of the Fifth Annual Conference on Health, Disability, and the Law today (June 8, 2007) at the IU School of Law-Indianapolis. Rupert talked about his work with youth during the conference titled "From Policy to the Classroom: Practical Strategies for Behavior Management and Compliance Issues."
Prior to addressing the conference, Rupert stopped to chat and pose for a picture with conference attendees Jessica Stenz, Allison McGinley, and Jessica Bissey (shown in photo on right).
