IUPUI’s MET Race Car Has Successful Debut
A new IUPUI race car, designed and built entirely by Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology student projects, made a successful debut last weekend.
On Sunday, August 27, MET Professor Pete Hylton gave the car its initial competition run at a Sports Car Club of American Solo event, taking a first-in-class trophy.
“This was really just a shake-down cruise to see if we were happy with the engine, drivetrain, and chassis modifications that have been completed,” Hylton said. “The carburetors obviously need a little tuning, because we were starving for fuel at higher RPMs, but for now, I think we can say that we’re pretty pleased with the progress that has been made...

IU School of Nursing Receives $1.3 Million NIH Grant to Train Nurse Researchers for the Future
The Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON) has received a $1.3 million, 5-year Institutional National Research Service Award (T-32) from the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This is the 16th year of funding for the School, an accomplishment only a handful of other schools of nursing have achieved.

Prof. Roisman is J. Skelly Wright Fellow at Yale in Fall 2006
Professor Florence Wagman Roisman will spend the Fall 2006 semester at Yale Law School as the J. Skelly Wright Fellow in Law. During her semester at Yale, she will teach the same course on the Civil Rights Movement that she has taught at IU School of Law – Indianapolis for several years.
Roisman, the William F. Harvey Professor of Law, has focused her practice, teaching, and writing on low-income housing, homelessness, and housing discrimination and segregation issues.

IUPUI Student Appointed to Student Affairs Fellows Program
IUPUI student Lygia Vernon has been accepted into the undergraduate fellows program, sponsored by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. Vernon is currently a junior in the School of Education at IUPUI.

IUPUI Professor Ulla M. Connor of the Indiana Center for Intercultural Communication (ICIC), part of the School of Liberal Arts, met recently with several Iceland officials to discuss the ICIC model of language training for immigrants. The model includes both language for specific purposes for the learners and intercultural communication for the native Icelanders. Every year Iceland hosts thousands of immigrants who need to learn Icelandic for work, school, and other functional purposes. |
