Ten Students to Receive Plater Civic Engagement Medallion

Ten graduating Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) students will be awarded the newly-established William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion.

The Plater Civic Engagement Medallion honors students who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to their communities during their undergraduate years at IUPUI.

The Plater Medallion will be awarded at the IUPUI Civic Engagement Showcase on Friday, April 28, 2006, 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Herron School of Art and Design, 735 West New York Street, Indianapolis, IN.

A student on the Indiana University Bloomington campus has been diagnosed with mumps, according to Hugh Jessop, director of the Indiana University Health Center. Former National YMCA Leader Named Visiting Scholar at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University

Kenneth L. Gladish, Ph.D., has been appointed a Visiting Scholar at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.

For the past six years, Gladish served as president, chief executive officer and national executive director of the YMCA of the USA, leading the national federated membership organization that connects, serves and directs the YMCA movement in the United States. He guided the organization of nearly 2,600 local organizations, 20 million members and more than 600,000 volunteers through substantial increases in program participants, volunteers and charitable support.

Herron Art Sale
Herron Open House, Friday, April 28

  • Ceramics & Print Sale, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Student Art Exhibition and Reception, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • View and purchase some of the best Herron student artwork available. The Open House begins at 9 a.m. with the Ceramics & Print Sale which includes pieces created by students and faculty in the ceramics and printmaking departments. The evening reception kicks off at 6pm with refreshments and music by Butler School of Music's Jazz Quartet. A juried student art exhibition will be on display in the Marsh Special Projects Gallery with nearly 60 award-winning creations. The evening continues with self-guided tours and student art displayed throughout the building.

    The reception is sponsored by Sallie Mae, the Herron Alumni Association and WFYI TV 20 / FM 90.1. Admission is free. Public parking is free and available in the surface lot west of Eskenazi Hall.     2006 Student Employment Appreciation Week

    In observance of Student Employment Appreciation Week, two outstanding student employees were recently recognized.

    Congratulations to Student Employee of Year, Kimberly Keller. Keller works as a marketing assistant for Sarah Gries at the Jags Bookstore. As Student Employee of the Year, Kimberly received a $125 Jagtag credit, a $40 Jags Bookstore gift certificate and gift certificates courtesy of Au Bon Pain, Qdoba and Mike’s Carwash.

    Joseph Franklin was selected 1st runner-up for Student Employee of the Year. Franklin works as a computer consultant for Ryan Knapp in the University Library. As 1st runner-up, Franklin received a $75 Jagtag credit, a $20 Jags Bookstore gift certificate and gift certificates courtesy of Au Bon Pain, Qdoba and Mike’s Carwash.

    Student Employment Appreciation Week, which took place this year April 10– 14, is celebrated each year by colleges and universities across the nation to recognize all students that work while attending college and the valuable contributions they make to the company or area, on or off campus, for which they work.
