IUPUI Students to Head to Hurricane-Ravaged Mississippi for Spring Break
The words “spring break” conjure up visions of scantily dressed girls gone wild on a Florida beach.
For three dozen Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis students headed south next month, “spring break” will mean time spent cleaning up the devastation of nature gone mad.
They, along with three IUPUI faculty and staff, will spend March 10 – 16, 2006, helping residents in and around one small Mississippi town to rebuild their lives after being among the hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina...

IUPUI Professor’s Work to Launch New Art Exhibition
Galerie Penumbra, 1043 Virginia Avenue, in Indianapolis, will unveil on March 3, 2006 an important four-exhibit series entitled In Her Element: The Art of Four Women. The goal of our project is two-fold: to bring attention to some of the city's exemplary local contemporary women artists and to attract more people to downtown Indianapolis, especially to the Fountain Square Neighborhood, with the high caliber of artists and presenters in the series.

IUPUI Computer Scientists Develop Revolutionary Medical Information System
Two Computer and Information Science faculty members at Purdue University School of Science, IUPUI have developed an Internet- based medical information system which they believe can help propel health care into the hi-tech age, save lives and cut costs.
Developed by Assistant Professors Yuanshun Dai and Xukai Zou, the medical information system not only solves the critical problems that have stymied development of an electronic health information system – security, reliability, and data integration - but does so within a single middleware system without modifying any existed databases and applications.
In fact, they have dubbed their system the “Secure and Reliable Health Information System"...

Disclosing Medical Error: A Challenge for Physicians
Wendy Levinson, M.D., FRCPC, Professor of Medicine and Chair, Department of Medicine, University of Toronto, will present "Disclosing Medical Error: A Challenge for Physicians" on Friday March 3, 2006 at noon in the Riley Outpatient Center Auditorium.
Dr. Levinson’s research on malpractice, and the outcomes of disclosure will be highlighted during this presentation, which isopen for an interdisciplinary audience. Levinson, former president of the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) will be visitingIndianapolis as part of a Pfizer Visiting Professorship Grant in Clear Health Communication. Her work on predicting communication links to malpractice, faculty development, and organizational change will be highlighted during presentations during this visit. This presentation is open to all interested and admission is free.
