Donations Pour in for Overseas Clinic, Funds Needed for Shipping

Thanks to donations from 13 Indiana communities, Indiana Reading Corps recently collected approximately 700 pounds of supplies for the hundreds of displaced children and patients – refugees and tsunami victims – at a Thailand clinic.

CNN Expert to Discuss Africa during IUPUI Visit

Close on the heels of the G8 summit and the naming of Bono and Bill and Melinda Gates as people of the year by Time magazine for their work in Africa, IUPUI will welcome Salih Booker, executive director of Africa Action, to campus on Feb. 15. Booker is a regular guest on CNN International, contributor to The Washington Post, New York Times and other print media, and consultant to the United Nations.

IUPUI Receives Grant to Internationalize the Professional Undergraduate Curriculum

The IUPUI Office of International Affairs has been awarded a two-year, federally funded grant to internationalize the undergraduate curriculum in three professional schools at IUPUI by engaging in an international partnership with Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Increased Spring Enrollments, Credit Hours at IUPUI

Enrollment at Indiana University’s eight campuses for the 2005-06 spring semester is 92,619, down slightly from last spring’s by 297 students, a decrease of 0.3 percent. Total credit hour enrollment among IU campuses, however, is up at 1,045,137.5, an increase of 5,911 credit hours or 0.6 percent. Two campuses – IUPUI and IPFW -- set spring records for credit hour enrollment.

Herron Hosts Top Indiana Student Artists

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program is the largest and longest-running recognition program of its kind in the country for students in grades seven through 12. IUPUI Office Wins Prestigious Award

IUPUI’s Office of Marketing and Communications has won an award in the prestigious the “Admissions Marketing Report” 21st annual admissions advertising competition.

The IUPUI Virtual Tour was recognized with a Merit Award in the internet/website category. The virtual tour enables visitors to the IUPUI website to discover IUPUI through a prospective student tour, campus housing tour, a tour celebrating campus heroes, and a tour about athletics at IUPUI.

Entries were judged on the basis of production standards, creativity and professionalism.

Pamela Ford Is New Director of Dental Assisting

After serving for one year as a clinical assistant professor of dental assisting at Indiana University School of Dentistry, Pamela T. Ford was named new director of the program, effective January 2006.

She succeeds Prof. Patricia Capps, who will remain on the full-time dental school faculty.

Prof. Ford is a 1975 graduate of IU’s dental assisting program. In 1978, she earned an associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene from Indiana State University, Evansville (now the University of Southern Indiana). She also earned a B.S. in Dental Hygiene Education (1992) and a Master of Social Work (2003) from the University of Southern Indiana.

She brings to the directorship a background that is rich in both academics and organized dentistry.

Throughout her career, she has worked as a dental assistant or dental hygienist in private practices primarily in the Evansville area. She taught allied dental professional students as a faculty member at the University of Southern Indiana from 1989 to 2001.

Prof. Ford is a former vice-president of the Evansville Dental Assistants Society. She has frequently presented continuing education courses, primarily on the topic of radiology for dental auxiliaries.
