IUPUI Project Will Make Government More Responsive to Citizens
The quality of life in a community is profoundly affected by many government services—schools, roads, public transportation, public health, water, sewer, police, and fire services, to name a few. Since the purpose of these services is to serve the community, they need to be responsive to the needs and opinions of citizens.
As part of its focus on strategies that enhance the quality of life in Central Indiana, the Center for Urban Policy and the Environment is initiating a Quality of Life (QL) Dialogue Web site to gather citizen input about government services.

Giving For Hurricane Relief Exceeds 9/11 Contributions, $2.96 Billion Sets Record for Disaster Relief Giving

Astronaut Mae Jemison to Deliver IUPUI King Dinner Keynote Address
Dr. Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to go into space, will deliver the keynote address during the 2006 IUPUI Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dinner.
The 36th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dinner will take place at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at the Indianapolis Marriott Ballroom, 350 W. Maryland St. This year's theme is “His Vision Lives.”
After earning a chemical engineering degree from Stanford University and a medical degree from Cornell University, Dr. Jemison served as a medical officer with the Peace Corps in Sierra Leone and Liberia. Liberal Arts Appoints New Dean of Student Affairs
The IU School of Liberal Arts at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis has named Professor Marianne S. Wokeck as the new associate dean of academic affairs, effective January 1, 2006. Wokeck is general editor and director of the Santayana Edition project, one of three editorial programs in the School of Liberal Arts’ Institute for American Thought.
Wokeck, professor of history and director of American studies, will replace Catherine Souch who is leaving IUPUI to assume a position at Kings College University of London.
