Crispus Attucks Middle School to Receive Money, Books, from IUPUI

IUPUI University Library Dean David Lewis will present school officials at Crispus Attucks Middle School with a check for $1,094 and 175 Scholastic books Friday, April 15, 2005.

The money and books were raised during a Scholastic Book Fair for Crispus Attucks Middle School that was held at University Library earlier this year. University Library and the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) at IUPUI sponsored a Scholastic book fair earlier this year to support the library book collection and reading literacy curriculum at Crispus Attucks.

Governor Mitch Daniels announced new initiatives at a Statehouse news conference Tuesday to bolster Indiana 's fight against methamphetamine, including placing IUPUI in a lead role to help reduce the backlog of drug cases at state police drug-testing laboratories.

Running Dads, Kids Promote Prostate Cancer Research

When a man is diagnosed with prostate cancer, it's often a race against time to ensure he receives the most effective treatment possible.

On Saturday, June 18 – the day before Father's Day – runners and walkers will be in step on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus to promote prostate cancer research and public awareness of the disease. That is the day of the third annual Dad's Day 5K Run and Fitness Walk.

Registration/packet pick-up is from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at the Indiana University Cancer Center, 535 Barnhill Drive, due west of IU Hospital.

Race for the Cure
Race for Cure Traffic Alert

The Race for the Cure, involving an expected crowd of 30,000 participants, will be held on Saturday, April 16 and will greatly affect both campus traffic and parking.

New York Street will be closed during the event beginning around 8 a.m. Blackford Street (from Michigan to the Canal) will be closed from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The easiest access to campus before and during the race will be from the West Street exits of I-65 (Exit 114); Michigan Street from the east; and 10th street from the west. The Blackford Street garage and Lot 80 will be reserved for IUPUI permits during the event.
