FUNFEST SET FOR OCTOBER 14; MAKE SURE TO GET FREE ATHLETIC TICKETS, FAMILY FUNPACK
Food, fun and festivities for all ages will be the order of the day, Sunday, October 14, from noon- 4 p.m. at the free IUPUI Jaguars Family FunFest. The event, hosted by IUPUI Chancellor Gerald Bepko, is open to the public and will be held in the parking lot at University Avenue and New York Street.

U.S. SENATE CONFIRMS IUPUI PROFESSOR TO HEAD VOLUNTEER AGENCY
The U.S. Senate Tuesday (Oct. 2) confirmed President Bush's nomination of Dr. Leslie Lenkowsky, a professor with the IU Center on Philanthropy at IUPUI, to serve as Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

BIOETHICS TODAY: DISCOURSE AND DIALOGUE
A series of events are planned this month to welcome Eric M. Meslin, Ph.D., as head of the new Indiana University Center for Bioethics. The Center will play an important role in developing degree programs and conducting research.

UNIVERSITY LIBRARY OPENS IUPUI PHILANTHROPY DISPLAY
"IUPUI: A Study in Philanthropy, 1914-2001," is now on display in the Joseph and Matthew Payton Philanthropic Studies Library located in the IUPUI University Library. Using original materials housed in the collection of the IUPUI University Library Special Collections and Archives, the exhibit portrays the impact of philanthropy on the history of the IUPUI campus and its surrounding community. The display is available to the public through December 2001.

LANDMARK NIH STUDY: DIET AND EXERCISE DRAMATICALLY DELAY TYPE 2 DIABETES
At least 10 million Americans at high risk for type 2 diabetes can sharply lower their chances of getting the disease with diet and exercise, according to the findings of a major clinical trial conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine and 26 other medical centers nationwide.

SPECIAL PROGRAM FOCUSES ON ALTERNATIVE HEALTH CARE, TREATMENT
Aspirin or acupuncture? Psychological counseling or St. John's Wort? Medication or meditation? With any such choice, perhaps there's room for both.

Increasingly, Americans are looking to the Eastern culture for answers and are turning to alternative forms of medicine to maintain health and treat their maladies. Eastern Medicine Approaches to Health and Disease, an upcoming special program at the Indiana University Medical Center, will be part of the citywide 2001 Spirit & Place Festival.

TURN OF THE CENTURY PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT
On Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 5-7 p.m. Herron Gallery, 1701 N. Pennsylvania, will open its latest show "Turn of the Century: Recent Works from the Hallmark Photographic Collection." The exhibit features contemporary, large-scale selections from the nation's oldest corporate holding of fine-art photography. Artists featured in the exhibit include Lorna Simpson, Hiroshi Sugimoto and David Wojnarowicz. The exhibit runs through Nov. 3. Gallery hours are Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. with extended hours on Thursdays until 7 p.m. For more information, call the Herron Gallery at (317) 920-2420.
