EXPLORE IUPUI JUST A MONTH AWAY
Explore IUPUI, a day of learning and discovery, is just weeks away.
Check out what Explore IUPUI will offer for faculty and staff and their families, alumni, prospective students, and community residents from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 12 at the Explore IUPUI website, http://www.explore.iupui.edu.
All activities and parking are free.
IUPUI wants everyone, especially staff and faculty who often don't have the opportunity to explore the campus outside of their own work areas, to see what makes it a leading urban university.
|
IUPUI is becoming a bigger, better, newer campus, with new buildings such as the state-of-the art home for the IU School of Law - Indianapolis. New facilities for teaching, learning, research and student housing are under construction. IUPUI's undergraduate programs have transformed and are winning national recognition and top-notch students. And the Jaguars are on the prowl, battling their way into Division I level conference championships and NCAA tournaments.
There are hundreds of activities that will inspire, entertain, and allow visitors a unique chance to discover and explore the campus. The countdown is underway for the first-ever Explore IUPUI. Don't miss seeing the campus like you've never had a chance to see it before.

ANCHORING EVENTS PROVIDE FOUNDATION FOR EXPLORE IUPUI
Explore IUPUI is building on the success of traditional campus events. These important campus events are among the activities that comprise Explore IUPUI.
Campus Day
IUPUI's Fall Campus Day, sponsored by the IUPUI Enrollment Center and Admissions Office, enables prospective students to discover all of the opportunities that the campus has to offer, as well as learn about financial aid and scholarships. Staff members will be at the University Place Conference Center and Hotel to welcome and assist students and their families.
Graduate Open House
The IUPUI Graduate Office is sponsoring the second annual Graduate School Open House as part of Explore IUPUI. Schools will have representatives available to answer questions in the Lecture Hall. There will be special presentations about graduate degrees, and workshops on financing graduate education, applying to medical school, the Graduate Non-Degree Program, the application process, and what happens when you are admitted to a graduate program.
Jaguars Family FunFest
IUPUI is hosting a free day full of fun games, demonstrations, performances and more for kids of all ages to enjoy on the University Library lawn. The Indianapolis Symphony's Musical Petting Zoo, the Indianapolis Colts, the Indianapolis Indians, the Indiana Pacers and Fever, the Marion County Library Bookmobile, and the Warren Township Fire Safety House are just some of the many groups that will be a part of this family fun.
School of Dentistry - Dental Day
A long-standing tradition on campus has been the School of Dentistry's Dental Day - a time for interested students to learn and discover the world of dentistry. This year's Dental Day will begin at 8 a.m. and is just another great reason for you to Explore IUPUI!
School of Liberal Arts Dean's Day
Explore Frankenstein:
Join the School of Liberal Arts' largest alumni event of the year at University Library. Dynamic faculty-led sessions range from an exploration of the history of science to an examination of monster films and fictions all tied together by Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein"!

FOR THE YOUNG, YOUNG-AT-HEART, AND THEIR PARENTS...
There are hours of fun to be had at Explore IUPUI.
Consider these activities:
• The Many Faces of Horror: Haunted House - Spiders, cemeteries, vampires and an entire host of creatures make up just some of the many faces that horrify us. Enjoy this mixed media haunted house put on by the staff at the University Library, as part of its ongoing "Frankenstein" exhibit - if you dare.
• "Frankenstein: Penetrating the Secrets of Nature," a national traveling exhibit that explores the ideas of scientific inquiry, power and ambition, and the need for understanding, confession and forgiveness.
• Kids plant plants in the Biology Greenhouse, learn about caring for them, and find out about photosynthesis.
• Parents and children can explore economic learning in various ways, including following a chocolate bar around the world.
• Funny faces; stretched out faces. Computer Science faculty will show visitors how to exaggerate portraits of themselves.
• Experience what it feels like to fly like a bat in the Bat Cave.
• Broadcast a mock newscast in front of a streaming media digital camera, and watch it later on your computer.
• Take a ride on a vehicle designed to travel on the moon.
• Get a front row seat for chemical demonstrations by Mr. Lab Guy.
• Make a goofy glob.
• Watch Boris Karloff in "Frankenstein."
EXPLORE IUPUI OFFERS SPECIAL TREAT FOR SPORTS FANS
The first-ever Explore IUPUI will be a special day for sports enthusiasts.
There will be a swim meet, women's basketball practice, and a softball team scrimmage.
The Jaguars men's soccer team will face off against the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland University, a Mid-Continent Conference opponent. IUPUI's volleyball team will battle against Western Illinois University, another conference rival.
Make the cover of Jaguar Illustrated by trying on official Jaguar gear and having your photo taken.
You can also participate in basic yoga stretching, discover "yoga with movement," watch a karate class and listen to storytellers spinning yarns with a sports theme.
VARIETY OF FOODS TO BE AVAILABLE AT EXPLORE IUPUI
Hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, and beverages will be available in the Jaguars Family FunFest area on the University Library Lawn. Feel more like a snack? They've got that, too: peanuts, cotton candy, snow cones and more.
Feeling a bit more adventurous? Then head for the International Food Tent in the Cavanaugh Hall/ University College area. It will offer fajitas, gyros and walking tacos.
In the Engineering and Technology/Science area, the Wrap & Roll tent will offer Italian sausage, hoagies and wraps. Concession stands with standard menus will be available in the Athletics area. In the Medical Plaza area, soft drinks and water will be available, too.
