RESEARCH WELLS DRILLED AS PART OF WHITE RIVER RESTORATION PROJECT
Data recorded at two research wells drilled recently along White River near IUPUI will provide valuable information about water quality and water table levels as part of a five-year project to restore the natural vegetation found on the site to the way it looked in the 1800s. The project is under the direction of The Center for Earth and Environmental Science at IUPUI. Measurements of the water table will aid in determining which water depths provide optimum growing environments for the 2,000 trees to be restored to the area, now just a grassy plain. The program's next phase includes a clean-up day Sept. 16 in advance of the Oct. 19-20 planting of approximately 600 trees on two riverbank acres between 10th and New York streets. Additional acres will be planted in March.
