HERRON GROUNDBREAKING TO INTRODUCE NEW ERA IN ART EDUCATION; CEREMONY SCHEDULED FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 4 P.M.
As Herron School of Art, IUPUI celebrates its centennial anniversary, officials of the school will introduce a new era of education in the arts with the groundbreaking of Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hall on the IUPUI campus. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m., with a Centennial celebration to follow.

Setting Sail for 2003: The IUPUI Sailing Club was among the many campus student organizations that participated in the student activities fair held Tuesday as part of Welcome Fest, the annual back-to-campus celebration. Crowds of returning students enjoyed ice cream cones for 25 cents and learned about student organizations during the event held on the quad outside University College.

Ai Sano (left to right), Maiko Okuno, and Rui Inohara, students of Tsuda College in Tokyo, blow out candles on a cake during a celebration of the ninth anniversary of the IUPUI-Tsuda summer program. Twenty-four students from Tsuda, an historic, 102-year-old Japanese private college for women, spent three weeks at IUPUI this summer improving their skills in oral and written English. During the program, sponsored by the Indiana Center for Intercultural Communication (ICIC), part of the School of Liberal Arts, the foreign students lived with local host families and visited attractions such as the Eiteljorg Museum, Circle Center Mall and Symphony on the Prairie. IUPUI is the only U.S. campus to host a summer program with Tsuda students.

IUPUI'S UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN BEGINS SEPTEMBER 16
Within the last 10 years, IUPUI staff and faculty have contributed nearly $3 million to the United Way of Central Indiana. This year, IUPUI's campaign goal is to raise $309,000 - $8,000 more than last year's contribution.

TAKE AIM AT THE SEPT. 12 UNITED WAY KICKOFF
The Indiana University School of Medicine kick-off for the United Way Campaign will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12, on the front lawn of Fesler Hall. Pledges collected during the event, Dunk a Dean for Charity, will support the Kenya Foundation Humanitarian Fund, which supports the IU-Moi Partnership in Eldoret, Kenya.

FALL ENROLLMENT, CREDIT HOURS RISE
Some 29,025 students have enrolled for the fall semester at IUPUI, a 2.4 percent increase over 2001. The number of credit hours has jumped 4.2 percent. For more information, click here.

MAGAZINE PRODUCED BY JOURNALISM SCHOOL AT IUPUI SELECTED AS A FINALIST IN NATIONAL COMPETITION
Voices From The War Zone, a 28-page magazine published and distributed by the Indiana University School of Journalism at IUPUI, is one of four finalists in the national Society of Professional Journalists' annual Mark of Excellence competition in the student magazine category. The winner will be announced at SPJ's annual convention Sept. 14 in Fort Worth, Texas.
