"Isthmus," a sculpture commissioned in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the IUPUI University Library Building, will be on display in the library atrium through summer 2004. The sculpture by IUPUI student James Darr was chosen from among the entries in the Second Annual Student Art Contest.

In celebration of the 10th birthday of its new building, the IUPUI University Library commissioned a flying sculpture for its atrium through a competition in collaboration with Herron School of Art.

Journalism Professor Wins NPC Award
The National Press Club selected IU School of Journalism Associate Professor Sherry Ricchiardi (left) to receive the Arthur Rowse Award for Press Criticism for her body of work reported for American Journalism Review.
The 30th annual National Press Club journalism awards were presented on July 14, 2003.
The faculty and the staff of the School of Journalism at IUPUI are very proud of Professor Ricchiardi for achieving this distinction for her work.

BookMarks 2003-2004 Program
University College and University Library have announced the featured books and calendar of events for the 2003-2004 BookMarks Program.
Scheduled activities for the community reading program during the fall semester 2003 are:
• September 23 -- Discussion of Philip Reilly's "Abraham Lincoln's DNA and Other Adventures in Genetics," noon - 1 p.m., University Library Browsing Room.
• October 29 -- Discussion of Sherman Alexie's "The Toughest Indian in the World," noon - 1 p.m., University Library Browsing Room.
• November 20 -- Panel presentation and discussion of Peace Corps experiences and reflection on Peter Hessler's book, "River Town: Two Years on the Yangtze," noon - 2 p.m., University Library Auditorium.
Books scheduled for discussion during 2004 include Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave, The Eagle's Shadow: Why America Fascinates and Infuriates the World, The Strangeness of Beauty, and Ella Minnow Pea: A Novel in Letters.
