Rags “The Hoosier Hobo”, aka David Ragsdale, entertained children recently during an event at Monument Circle. Ragsdale, who began his life as a clown in 1989, will teach the Community Learning Network course “Be A Clown!” beginning Sept. 7.

Local youth attending a summer camp at IUPUI put their engineering skills to the test in an egg drop at IUPUI.

Working with non-standard building materials such as transparent tape, paper cups and paper clips, the students built crates designed to protect a cargo of one egg during a drop from the University Library balcony.

The 23 campers, boys and girls who have completed grades 7 and 8, were enrolled in the second week-long session of the Minority Engineering Advancement Program (MEAP) sponsored by the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI. Students attending the third session this week built Rube Goldberg machines to launch airplanes.



Eleven students from Yeditape University of Istanbul, Turkey spent July at IUPUI as summer school students in the School of Engineering and Technology. In addition to laboratory assignments with IUPUI professors, the students toured area engineering businesses. During tours to Kelley Racing and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway the students learning about the roles an engineer might play on a motor racing team.




Area high school students visited Eli Lilly and Company as part of the three-week intensive Computer Science Bioinformatics Summer College hosted by the Department of Computer and Information Science.

High School Students Complete College-Level Life Sciences Course
Not an average high school summer course, the IUPUI School of Science’s Computer Science Summer College for high school students proved young adults with training in the life sciences.

Annette Trierweiler is a Park Tudor student who worked with Lenore Tedesco and CEES staff on a microcosm experiment at Eagle Creek Reservoir. Trierweiler won a $500 award at the Intel International Science Fair in Portland, Ore., for her research project, "A Study of Zooplankton-Phytoplankton Interactions in Eagle Creek Reservoir."
