IUPUI Creates New Community Service Scholarship and Names Community Service Scholarship Program to Honor Legacy of Sam Jones
IUPUI officials announced the campus is creating a new community service scholarship and naming its community service scholarship program after a man who stood as an icon for community service in Indianapolis: Sam H. Jones.

While on assignment in London, England, as part of the International Human Rights Internship Program of the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis, student Justin Glon met July 16 with three other individuals with connections to the law school. Shown are Glon (left to right); retired Lord Justice of Appeal Sir Christopher Staughton; IUPUI Vice Chancellor for External Affairs Cheryl G. Sullivan; and Indiana Supreme Court Justice Frank Sullivan Jr. Staughton, a well-known English barrister, was jurist-in-residence at the IU School of Law -Indianapolis in 1999. The foursome of Larry Propst, IUPUI deputy chief of police (left to right); Ingrid Toschlog, interim bursar; Jeff Plawecki, director of facility operations; and John Mulvey, IUPUI chief of police, was the winning team for the 2003 Robert E. Martin Charity Golf Invitational. Sixteen teams competed in the Florida scramble tournament that netted $3,071 for United Way. The 18-hole event was held last month at Raccoon Lake Golf Course.

The Mid-Continent Conference has announced that IUPUI women’s basketball player Tiffany Kyser (Indianapolis, Ind./Culver Girls Academy/School of Education) has been chosen Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Kyser becomes the first student-athlete in IUPUI history to win the conference’s most prestigious individual honor.

Simply bring school supplies for needy children to campus and contact your school Back Pack Attack coordinator or Marty Posch at 278-8573.

Needed school supplies include: backpacks, erasers, rulers, crayons, art boxes, scissors, glue sticks, pencil sharpeners, ink pens, pencils and colored pencils, notebook paper and pocket folders. Tax-deductible cash donations will also be accepted and will be used to purchase backpacks and other school supplies.
