UTILITY TUNNELS TO CLOSE AUGUST 1
IUPUI will purchase vehicles, hire additional staff and take other measures to transport aboveground equipment and other materials that are now moved through underground utility tunnels connecting campus buildings on the north side of Michigan Street.

MURAL PROVIDES LAW FIRM A "WINDOW VIEW" OF DOWNTOWN
Herron students Lauren Kussro and Aaron Nicholson and Herron Faculty Member Ed Manetta recently completed this mural of downtown for local law firm Barnes & Thornburg. The firm commissioned the artists to paint the mural to provide a downtown "view" for a section of the office without windows.

Fifteen-year-old Adrian Thomas gives 9-year-old Alexis Wilson a few pointers during a visit to a computer lab in University Library.

KIDS AT INNER-CITY CAMP GET TASTE OF COMPUTERS, COLLEGE LIFE AT IUPUI UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
Many teen-agers wouldn't relish the idea of spending six hours a week during the summer in a library computer lab, but 15-year-old Adrian Thomas does. He hopes to someday be a computer teacher, but right now just enjoys surfing the Internet and learning to use different programs. Since he doesn't have a computer at home, this is one of the only opportunities during the summer that he will get to use one.

Adrian is participating in a low-cost summer day camp organized by inner-city Messiah Baptist Church, six hours of which are spent every week at a computer lab in the IUPUI University Library, 755 W. Michigan St.

IUPUI TO CELEBRATE BIRTH OF JAZZ GREAT LOUIS ARMSTRONG
When Louis Armstrong made his very first record in Richmond, Ind. with King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, he was told to stand at the opposite end of the room from the band. According to band members, that was the only way to balance the music, because Armstrong's playing drowned out the other musicians.

In honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of this great jazz musician, the IUPUI University Library will host a celebration of his life and music.
