IPS Schools Recognize Student Substance Abuse Prevention Program
The Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) system recently honored the IUPUI Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention Program (ASAP) during the school system's Celebration of Peace award ceremony at the Murat Centre. Dr. Joan Henkle of the IU Department of Public Health, ASAP faculty coordinator, accepted a plaque on behalf of the ASAP Program from Dallene Harpold, program specialist for the IPS Success Without Drugs Program.
ASAP involves teams of IUPUI student volunteers - future doctors, nurses, dentists and public health workers - who present a dynamic hands-on program that not only imparts knowledge about tobacco, alcohol and drugs, but also actively involves children in the experience. The ASAP Program is a collaborative effort among health professionals, Clarian Health Partners, Inc. and IPS to provide a substance abuse prevention program for children.
Visit http://www.iupui.edu/~iuasap for more information about the IUPUI-ASAP program.
