Showered with confetti, IUPUI degree candidates celebrate their accomplishments at the close of the 2004 commencement ceremony. About 4,936 graduating students were honored May 9 at the Indiana Convention Center & RCA Dome.

In their first season under new Head Coach Andrea Lord, the IUPUI women’s tennis team won its second consecutive Mid-Continent Conference Tournament Championship. Team members celebrated a winning season during a recent luncheon. The Jaguars finished the spring season 16-6. The season ended with a 4-0 loss to Vanderbilt in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in Nashville, Tenn.



Airport Investments Yield Uncertain Returns
Indianapolis is about to embark on a gargantuan public works project—the $974 million Midfield Terminal at Indianapolis International Airport. But will this investment pay off for the city? Unfortunately, the answer to that question is uncertain. In an effort to predict the success of the airport investment for Central Indiana, Sam Nunn, research director and senior scholar at the IUPUI Center for Urban Policy and the Environment, analyzed the effects of aviation investments in Indianapolis and eight comparison regions.

Austin to Receive National Nursing Science Award
Dr. Joan K. Austin, a distinguished professor of nursing at the Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON) in Indianapolis, will receive the Distinguished Contribution to Nursing Science award from the American Nurses Foundation during the American Nurses Association annual conference next month. Austin is nationally recognized for her research on family adaptation to childhood epilepsy and asthma.

New Technology Courses at IUPUI Empower Computer Users
Four new technology courses at IUPUI will offer novice and more skilled computer users a chance to sharpen their computer technology skills. The full-semester courses will be offered next fall through the Department of Computer Information Technology within the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology. The classes
are available to non-majors and no prerequisites are required.
