| Three teams from the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI put their basic utility vehicles to the test during the third annual Basic Utility Vehicle (BUV) Design Competition held May 10 in Zionsville. The national competition, sponsored by the Institute for Affordable Transportation, provides engineering students an opportunity to build and test vehicles in rough terrain, |

all for the sake of producing vehicle designs that may be economical and reliable for rural areas of developing countries. The IUPUI teams placed fourth, sixth and seventh out of 18 teams. |

Beginning Monday, May 19, 2003, construction work to the campus utility infrastructure will begin in the area of Middle Drive and Barnhill Drive. This project, which will continue until the middle of August, is required to support Clarian Health's expansion of Riley Hospital for Children. A pedestrian walkway will be provided on the east side of the current Barnhill pedestrian walkway and on the south side of the current Middle Drive walkway. The pedestrian walkway will not be wide enough to accommodate service cart traffic. |
A computer simulation tool that predicts growth patterns in Central Indiana is now available for public use. The Land Use in Central Indiana Model (LUCI), developed by John Ottensmann, professor at the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI, may be viewed at various demonstration sites this month. Demonstrations are scheduled on the IU campuses in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Columbus, and Kokomo, and at three other locations around the state.
