During a presentation at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) held last month at IUPUI, a University of Wisconsin – River Falls student (right) explains his research into proteins involved in the formation of frog hearts. Approximately 2,500 college students and faculty mentors from more than 400 colleges and universities participated in the three-day conference. Colgate University student Deborah Karpman’s large-scale paintings “transforming the viewer into the viewed” were among the fine arts exhibits, posters, oral reports and dance performances presented to reflect research in the arts, sciences and humanities.

“It’s like holding the Olympics of undergraduate research,” said NCUR committee member and IUPUI staffer Amy Jones, describing the NCUR conference. “This is the best and brightest of undergraduate researchers from across the country. You’ve probably got the next Einstein in the group.”
