RACE FOR THE CURE
The IUPUI team for Race for the Cure (shown above) won first place for having the largest team in the school and university division. Nearly 800 runners and walkers from the IUPUI community helped to raise more than $14,000, not counting outside pledges. According to event organizers, more than 25,000 people participated in Race for the Cure on the IUPUI campus last Saturday. The annual event helped to raise a projected $650,000 for breast cancer awareness and research. One quarter of the money raised from Saturday's 5k race will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to fund breast cancer awareness initiatives. The remaining 75 percent will be awarded in grants to Indiana agencies working to find a cure, treat those with the disease, or serve the community. IUPUI received over $290,000 from last year's Race for the Cure and the Komen Foundation.
