IUPUI CITED ON NPR SHOW AS INSTITUTION USING INNOVATIVE LEARNING
A National Public Radio show guest recently cited IUPUI as a great example of a university instituting innovative learning techniques. Andrea Leskes of the Association of American Colleges and Universities mentioned IUPUI during a discussion about progressive colleges on the NPR show "Public Interest with Kojo Nnamdi."

Said Leskes, "One good example is IUPUI, which is an absolutely enormous comprehensive institution and has in place some wonderful programs focusing on student learning, involving students in a first-year program, very clear learning goals, a very strong program of faculty development and related teaching and learning and so on."

To listen to the show broadcast Friday, March 29, log on to NPR at http://www.wamu.org/pi/shows/index.html. IUPUI is mentioned at about 40 minutes into the show.

NATIONAL TEACHER OF THE YEAR TO VISIT IUPUI
The 2001 National Teacher of the Year will make a stop by campus to talk about her experiences on Friday, April 12 at noon in Room 103 of the Lecture Hall.

"The rewards I find in teaching are rooted in the joy of not only watching, but also being part of my students' learning and development," said Forman, who teaches social studies at a high school in Middlebury, Vt. "A good teacher needs not only a good understanding of what he or she teaches, but also a sense of excitement in learning and a clear vision of how the key elements of a subject can be conveyed to students."

President George Bush named Forman the 51st National Teacher of the Year last June.

Forman's visit is sponsored by the IUPUI chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, a professional education fraternity, and the Education Students Advisory Council.
