LIVE WEB DISCUSSION FEATURED STUDY OF MORMONISM BY IUPUI PROFESSOR EMERITUS
An IUPUI professor emeritus of history and religious studies responded to questions and
comments about her study of Mormonism during a live Web discussion hosted Friday, March 22
by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
Professor Jan Shipps, who has studied Mormonism for four decades, was the guest for the
Chronicle's "Colloquy Live." The hour-long on-line discussion began at 2 p.m., Eastern Time.
Shipps answered questions about the emergence of Mormonism as a new
religious tradition on the world stage. Interested persons posted questions during a chat session which is archived at
http://chronicle.com/colloquylive/2002/03/mormon/.
This colloquy was connected to the Chronicle's recent publication of a lengthy article that
recounts how much research and writing about the Latter-day Saints is "not just for Mormons
anymore."
Shipps, who has studied Mormonism for 40 years, is considered the most knowledgeable and
prominent non-Mormon scholar studying the Latter-day Saints.
