Day-On Celebration: Chancellor Gerald Bepko (right) works with Brian Flannery, 6, on an arts and crafts project at the Hawthorne Center during the fourth annual IUPUI Day-On celebration honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The chancellor and about 200 other IUPUI administrators, faculty, staff, students and friends spent the Jan. 21 King Day holiday as volunteer workers at Hawthorne and 12 other community agencies. The volunteers completed various projects for the agencies, including painting, clean-up and the construction or rehabilitation of homes.

HERRON STUDENTS SHOW WORK AT LOCAL GALLERY
Twenty-one Herron School of Art students who received best of show and honorable mention awards at last month’s student show at the Herron Gallery will display their work until February 24 at the Dean Johnson Gallery located at 646 Massachusetts Avenue. HASSELL NAMED ACTING DEAN, KELLEY SCHOOL OF BUSINESS INDIANAPOLIS
John M. Hassell, professor of accounting, has been named acting dean of the Indianapolis campus of the IU Kelley School of Business. Hassell will assume the responsibilities of current Dean Roger Schmenner, on sabbatical in Europe, until Schmenner's return in the summer of 2003.

IUPUI UNIVERSITY LIBRARY FEATURES BLACK AMERICAN ART DISPLAY
In recognition and celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Day and Black History Month, IUPUI University Library is currently hosting a cultural display, scheduled through February 28, 2002. The installation, entitled "Seeing Through Black American Eyes," features the private collections of IUPUI Professor William E. and Dr. Joyce G. Taylor, as well as fine art created by national artist Dr. Margaret T. Burroughs and Indianapolis resident Bruce Armstrong.
