IUPUI Program to Help
Juvenile Offenders Needs Coordinators
The Aftercare by IUPUI through Mentoring (AIM) program, developed by SPEA Professor Roger Jarjoura, is a unique program whose mission is to help juvenile offenders stay out of prison and out of trouble. AIM pairs juveniles from across the state with college students, adult volunteers, and service providers in the community who offer advice on jobs, health, education, social skills and money management, and help each participant set goals for the future and create a reentry plan.
The AIM program is currently looking for people to serve as Aftercare Coordinators. Aftercare Coordinators work full or part time and duties include helping complete initial interviews of juveniles in the program, providing instruction on life skills, referring youth to mentors and more. Positions are available in Indianapolis, Bloomington, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Gary, and Logansport.
Coordinators are hired and maintained by AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps, the domestic Peace Corps, engages more than 40,000 Americans in intensive, results-driven service each year. After their term of service, AmeriCorps members receive education awards to help finance college or pay back student loans.
For more information, please call Jared Sigler at (317) 261-3029 or e-mail him at jsigler@iupui.edu. For more details about the AIM program, please log on to http://aim.spea.iupui.edu.
