Call for Applications for Faculty Learning Communities
The Faculty Learning Communities program provides an opportunity for faculty to participate in a scholarly exchange on teaching and learning. Faculty participants meet regularly as a group throughout the academic year to discuss their group topic, and to conduct pertinent research and development activities.
All IUPUI faculty are invited to submit applications to become part of faculty learning communities in the following areas: Scholarship of Teaching and Learning on Instructional Technology Impact; New Forms of Scholarly Communication
Civic Participation; Creativity; and Lumina Communities on Multicultural Course Transformation

IUPUI Choir Concert
The IU School of Music at IUPUI presents the IUPUI Choir in concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 26 at the Indiana Historical Society, 450 W. Ohio St.
Choir Director John Sittard will lead the IUPUI University Choir and the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra in an evening of entertaining music.

IUPUI Student Reading
The English Department will sponsor the final student reading for the semester at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 29 at the Abbey Coffeehouse, 771 Massachusetts Ave.
Esteemed featured readers will start off the evening which includes a spirited open-mike session themed around plans for summer. Writers are encouraged to bring their best written work of the year to read in the open-mike sessions.
Audience members will be encouraged to put pen to paper to win some great prizes. This event is free of charge and open to the public.

Upcoming Human Resources Workshops
The Human Resources Administration is offering these training and development opportunities during May:
Effective Presentations, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, HR Conference Room (UN 372). This session will include information on preparing yourself as a speaker, understanding your audience, constructing an effective presentation outline and practicing a presentation.
- Negotiations for Living Series
- Part I: 1 to 5 p.m., Thursday, May 6, Union Building Hoosier Room (2nd Floor). Come learn the basics of developing a powerful, practical and efficient approach to negotiating with co-workers, supervisors, vendors and even family members.
- Part II: 1 to 5 p.m., Thursday, May 13, Union Building Hoosier Room. This session covers the 12-step process for negotiating and how to overcome resistance, foster cooperation, structure better deals and handle organizational difficulties.

PCPD May Brown Bag: Self-Defense
Come watch self-defense demonstrations by facilitator Sensei Lowell Johnson from noon to 1 p.m., Monday, May 10, Union Building, Hoosier Room. Johnson is a 5th Degree Black Belt. He is a certified Black Belt instructor in: Shorei Kai Karate Do, Lodokan Judo, Goshin Ho Jiu Jitsu, and Sombo Wrestling.
Discussion topics include self-defense tricks, tips and techniques. Individuals interested in participating in the optional hands-on practice of self-defense moves may want to be prepared by wearing comfortable attire.

A Celebration of Women’s History
On Thursday, April 29, the United States District Court will host “A Celebration of Women’s History,” to recognize the many contributions that women have made to the law, the courts and the legal community in Indiana.
The event, free and open to the public, will be held at 2 p.m., in Room 216 of the United States Court House, 46 E. Ohio St.
Retired Indiana Court of Appeals Judge Betty Barteau is the featured speaker. Barteau, a graduate of the IU School of Law-Indianapolis, is head of the Russian-American Judicial Partnership which implements programs to improve the Russian judiciary. Her writings include Thirty Years of the Journey of Indiana's Women Judges, 1964-1994, published in the Indiana Law Review in 1997.
