UNIQUE JOB FAIR SPONSORED BY IU AND PURDUE
TO BE HELD NOV. 10
INDIANAPOLIS - More than 100 regional and national employers are lining up to participate in a unique job fair sponsored by two of the nation's most respected universities.
The ninth annual Indiana Multicultural Job Fair (IMJF) will take place from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10 in the 500 Ballroom at the Indiana Convention Center, 100 S. Capitol Ave. Sponsored by the nine campuses of Indiana University and Purdue University, the fair is open to graduates and soon-to-be graduates from any two- or four-year U.S. college or university. The event is administered from the Career Center at IUPUI.
Companies registered to participate include such well-known names as NASA, Office Depot, Procter & Gamble, Charles Schwab & Co., U.S. Marines Corps Officers Program, and Wells Fargo. Jobs available include positions as management trainee, stockbroker, accountant, engineer, claims examiner, analyst/programmer, children's services worker, service representative, programmer, and computer scientist.
"Ten years ago, job candidates had to really beat the bushes when they were looking for jobs. Today the tables have turned and employers must be proactive in recruiting qualified candidates for their companies," IMJF coordinator Sue Ream said.
Although the job fair is open to all college seniors and alumni, organizers created the IMJF to promote job opportunities for historically under-represented groups in the work force, including minorities and those with disabilities. Last year 48 percent of the job applicants who participated were minorities.
The job fair is the largest event of its kind in the state and traditionally draws college graduates and seniors from several states.
In addition to one-on-one, face-to-face opportunities for job candidates to interact with employers, the job fair will again offer participants the opportunity to add their resumes to a database that will be distributed to all the employers at the fair.
"This resume database allows candidates to have exposure to companies they may not have been able to make contact with at the fair, and allows employers access to candidates for both current and future positions," Ream said.
Registration for interested job seekers is $10.
A complete list of employers expected to attend the fair, as well as instructions on creating a scannable resume for use in the resume database, may be viewed online at: http://www.iupui.edu/~jobfairs.
