IU AND PURDUE TO SPONSOR UNIQUE JOB FAIR NOV. 16

INDIANAPOLIS - College seniors and graduates seeking employment can meet with representatives of more than 100 regional and national employers during a career fair sponsored by two of the nation's most respected universities.

The tenth annual Indiana Multicultural Job Fair (IMJF) will take place from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16 in the Sagamore Ballroom at the Indiana Convention Center, 100 S. Capitol Ave.

Sponsored by the nine campuses of Indiana University and Purdue University and organized by the IUPUI Career Center, the fair is open to graduates and soon-to-be graduates from any two- or four-year U.S. college or university. Participating employers are offering jobs in a variety of occupational areas.

Companies registered to participate include AFLAC, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, GE Supply, The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, the Central Intelligence Agency, Lilly Research Center, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Mid America Clinical Laboratories, Omaha Public Power District, Rolls Royce North America, and many more, including several government and non-profit organizations.

"It's encouraging to see employers coming from all over the nation to find good, qualified candidates to fill their positions, despite the economic downturn," IMJF coordinator Amy Andrews said.

Jobs available include positions as management trainee, accountant, engineer, claims representative, probation officer, medical technologist, social worker, programmer and many others. Some companies will also interview for available internship positions.

Although organizers created the IMJF to promote job opportunities for historically under-represented groups in the workforce, including minorities and those with disabilities, the job fair is open to all college seniors and alumni.

The IMJF job fair is the largest event of its kind in the state and traditionally draws college graduates and seniors from several states. In previous years, up to 48 percent of the job candidates were minorities.

In addition to one-on-one, face-to-face opportunities for job candidates to interact with employers, the job fair will again offer participants the opportunity to add scannable resumes to a database that all employers at the fair will receive.

The resume database allows candidates to have exposure to companies they may not have been able to make contact with at the fair, and allows employers to access candidates for both current and future positions.

Registration for interested job seekers is $10.

A complete list of employers expected to attend the fair may be viewed online at: http://www.jobfairs.iupui.edu.
