IUPUI JAGUARS JAZZ IT UP FOR HOMECOMING

INDIANAPOLIS - With a brand new fight song and school spirit at an all-time high, thanks to the school's biggest win yet in men's basketball against Indiana State, IUPUI is giving its alumni a swinging welcome back to campus for this year's homecoming on Feb. 10 themed "Jazzy Jaguars."

Alumni and students will attend a lunch at IUPUI's University College, 815 W. Michigan St., at 11:30 a.m. where Athletics Director Mike Moore will speak and homecoming banners created by IUPUI student groups will be on display.

After lunch, the IUPUI women's and men's basketball teams will take on the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. The women play at 1 p.m. and the men follow at 3:30 p.m., both in the IUPUI Natatorium Gymnasium.

Building a homecoming tradition is important to IUPUI, said Chancellor Gerald Bepko. "Life on campus is enriched by the spirit and pride of intercollegiate athletics. Our teams are starting to attract more attention and student participation. Last semester, we introduced a new rallying point - a fight song - and the men's soccer team became our first-ever NCAA tournament team."

In keeping with the Mardis Gras and Jazz theme, a week full of spirited events will lead up to the big day. On Monday, Feb. 5, students will be encouraged to wear Mardis Gras beads and beads will be hanging all across campus. On Tuesday, Feb. 6 at noon, students, faculty and staff will be treated to jazz music in the lower level of University College. On Thursday, Feb. 8, the campus will cheer on the basketball teams at a pep rally at noon in the gymnasium. On Friday, everyone across campus will be dressed in red, black and gold in support of their Jaguars.
