"A Visitor" by Henry Aguet

HERRON FACULTY TO SHOW WORK AT ANNUAL EXHIBIT

INDIANAPOLIS - Herron School of Art is hoping Hoosiers will develop a love for art this Valentine's Day when the school's annual Faculty Exhibit opens from 5-7 p.m. at Herron Gallery, 1701 N. Pennsylvania St.

Gallery Director David Russick divided the exhibit into four parts in order to adequately showcase each of Herron's 63 faculty members. The installations rotate yearly and each feature faculty members representing all eight departments at Herron. This is the third installation in this four-part series.

Faculty participating in this year's show include Henry Aguet, a visual communication professor who will display a series of IRIS, or fine art prints based on his photographs of the sea entitled, "The Images Came to Me." Said Aguet, "The title refers to the fact that I am so drawn to these scenes of nature which I record that they seem to seek me and present themselves to me."

Kathleen O'Connell, visual communication professor, will show off an illustration she created for Herron's annual fund-raiser, Janus Ball. She created the gorgeous drawing entitled "Green Man" both as a nod to her Irish heritage and to capture the mood of this year's ball themed "Janus Green with Envy" which will be held on St. Patrick's Day.

Richard Emery Nickolson, a fine arts professor, will exhibit six drawings of prehistoric sites in and around Carnac, France, created while teaching overseas at the Pont-Aven School of Art. Fine Arts Professor Peg Fierke will display three of her most recent prints completed at Herron's IRIS Center, along with several paintings.

Printmaking Professor Jan Tenebaum will display a series of woodcuts that, she said, focus on the spiritual content of images that depict water as a sacred form. Art History Professor Jean Robertson will make available two of her most recent publications including "Painting as a Language Material: Technique, Form, Content," and "Matter Mind Spirit: 12 Contemporary Indiana Women Artists."

Other faculty members in the exhibit include Phil Tennant, Eric Nordgulen, Sara Rytteke, Robert Eagerton and Aaron Law.

The exhibit will run through March 10. Herron Gallery is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. with extended hours on Thursdays until 7 p.m. The gallery is closed Sundays. For more information, please call Herron Gallery at (317) 920-2420.
