IUPUI
University Library Develops Electronic Atlas Features
INDIANAPOLIS - The Digital Libraries Team of the IUPUI University Library has announced the redesign of the Electronic Atlas of Central Indiana. New features that have been added to the electronic atlas site include the first of multiple phases of historic aerial photographs of several Indiana counties and updated maps reflecting 2000 census data.
The Historical Aerial Archive Project
has released the first of a series of opportunities for a user to view
historic aerial photographs
from six of the nine counties within the metropolitan statistical area. This
region includes the counties of Marion (1956, 1962), Boone (1970), Hamilton
(1941, 1956, 1962, 1972), Hancock (1950, 1956, 1969, 1987, 1992), Hendricks
(1946, 1958, 1970), and Shelby (1970). The site is broken down into the county/year
page, township maps within each county, and a geography map of the townships.
The user can click the area of interest on the township map and the photo of
that region will appear. To further the user's capability, Mr. Sid Image Viewer
has been added to the page to provide zoom and pan features. Once the area of
interest is identified, a simple click of the print button allows the user to
have a historical photo in hand.
Electronic Atlas of Central Indiana now provides the latest updates for Census 2000 data. The Digital Libraries Team receives current data from the U.S. Census Bureau and creates new view maps that show population and ethnic trends by census tract levels for the Metropolitan Statistical Area. Features of this page also include: Latest Releases, Tentative Release dates, American Facts Finder, and the 1990 Census Data.
