MORE THAN 4,300 STUDENTS TO RECEIVE DEGREES AT IUPUI'S COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY MAY 13

Indiana University and Purdue University will award more than 4,300 degrees during IUPUI's commencement ceremony on Mother's Day, May 13.

Commencement begins at 3 p.m. Sunday in the RCA Dome, preceded by a parade of students to their seats.

A total of 13,489 degrees will be conferred by Indiana University in May during commencement ceremonies on its eight campuses. An additional 1,669 degrees from Purdue University will be awarded on the six campuses where Purdue also offers courses.

IU President Myles Brand, Purdue President Martin C. Jischke and IUPUI Chancellor Gerald Bepko will preside at IUPUI's ceremony.

President Brand will confer four honorary degrees during IUPUI's commencement ceremony. Honorary degree recipients are:

• Raymond Leppard, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra music director, Doctor of Music. Leppard's degree will be conferred at both the IUB and IUPUI commencement ceremonies;
• Dr. Doris Merritt, special assistant to the chancellor for research and graduate education and professor emeritus of pediatrics, Doctor of Science;
• Dr. George Rawls, a retired Indianapolis surgeon and former assistant dean of the IU School of Medicine, Doctor of Science;
• Dr. Daniel Laskin, a distinguished leader in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Doctor of Science.

Attendance at the ceremony is open to all. Tickets are not required.
