SPORTS MEMORABILIA, PACKAGES, AND MORE ON TAP AT IUPUI AUCTION

Hop on a private plane to see Notre Dame play the Cornhuskers.

Root for the Cubs from box seats at Wrigley Field.

Own a basketball autographed by Bobby Knight.

Get a running shoe autographed by Olympic gold medallist Marion Jones.

Arrange to have a son or daughter be a "bat boy" for the Indianapolis Indians.

These and more than 100 other prizes are up for grabs as part of the first-ever sports auction that IUPUI will hold February 7 to raise money for athletic scholarships.

The event, combining live and silent auctions, will have Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson as its honorary chair. The three-hour event begins at 6 p.m. at the University Place Conference Center. Money raised from the event will provide scholarships to IUPUI's student-athletes.

There also are non-sports related items, too. Among them:

· Drive a Jaguar for a week.
· Needlepoint portrait of your home.
· Florida Condo stay for two, with airfare.
· Dinner at Cedar Crest hosted by IUPUI Chancellor Gerald Bepko.
· Gourmet gift basket.

The "Evening in the Jungle" auction will support the Jaguars, those students who make up the teams that compete in a total of 14 NCAA Division I level sports. The student-athletes deserve the support, says Mike Moore, IUPUI's Athletics Director.

"These young people work as hard off the field or court as they do in competition," Moore said. "The average grade point average for the 220 student-athletes who make up our teams is 2.8, and 90 of the team members have a grade point average of 3.0 or better."

"Their hard work and dedication have turned IUPUI into one of the city's major sports programs, which contributes to making Indianapolis a world class city," he continued. "We need to ensure they receive the scholarships they deserve so they can pursue degrees in fields ranging from business to science that will make them winners the remainder of their lives."

Other prizes to be auctioned include:

· Private plane and tickets for two to Notre Dame versus Nebraska at Lincoln, September 8.
· US Open Tennis package with airfare, hotel and tickets for two.
· Baseball autographed by Duke Snider.
· Four VIP Notre Dame versus Navy football tickets.
· Commemorative 100th Anniversary Army versus Navy Football, signed by players.
· Victory Field Suite for Indians game.
· 2000 football signed by 2000 Colts Offense.
· Two VIP Lower Level Pacers Tickets (3/16/01 vs. Hawks)

Tickets for the auction are $60 per individual and are available by calling the IUPU athletics office at (317) 274-0622. Refreshments will be served during the event.
