Students to Present Native American Religions Research
IUPUI students who took the Native American Religions course last semester will present their research projects from 6:30 to 9 p.m., on Feb. 7, 2008, at the American Indian Center, 2236 East Tenth St. in Indianapolis.
Every semester for the past three years the Department of Religious
Studies at IUPUI has offered a course in Native American Religions.
As part of their requirements for the class, students produce papers or presentations related to historic or contemporary issues not only of interest to the Indian community, but also of interest and importance to the academic community and all people.
This past semester, the students in the Native American Religions
class researched and presented issues related to American Indian identity, so-called "New Age Religions" and the use of Native American philosophy and religions for alcohol and drug treatment.
