Inside the Academy Sabbatical Speaker Series

Associate Professor Thomas A. Upton will present “Testing in the Second Language, Thinking in the First Language” as the next session of the School of Liberal Arts Sabbatical Speaker Series: Inside the Academy.

Upton’s talk will take place from noon to 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17 in Cavanaugh Hall Room 438. This presentation will discuss the results of a study examining how subjects used their first language and second language as languages of thought when answering reading comprehension items on the Next Generation TOEFL. Data was drawn from verbal reports collected from 24 subjects from China, Japan and Korea.
