Academic Writing/Academic Speech Discussion

University of Michigan Professor John Swales will discuss differences and similarities between academic writing and academic speech during a guest lecture at IUPUI.

Swales will present “Academic writing and academic speech: One grammar or two?” from 4 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, in Cavanaugh Hall, Room 508. He will discuss certain characteristics of academic speech, and address the question of what kind of grammatical account might best capture the central characteristics of academic speech.
