New Printing Policy for Both University Library & Ruth Lilly Art Library
New printing policy for both the University Library and the Ruth Lilly Art Library will affect IUPUI students, faculty and staff members.
On July 5, 2005 a new print management system went into effect at the IUPUI University Library and at the Ruth Lilly Art Library of the Herron School of Art and Design. All students, faculty and staff will be charged a computer printing fee of 1 cent per page and will be required to use either their Jagtag card (programmed to accept debit charges) or a pre-paid University Library Printer-Copier Card to retrieve all computer printing requests via Print Release Stations. Color computer printing is still $1 a page and photo copies are still 7 cents a page using a Jagtag/Printer Card or10 cents a page using cash.
Printer-copier cards can be purchased from the University Library Circulation Desk for $2.00–the card includes a printing-copier credit of $1. To activate the campus Jagtag as a debit card, students, faculty and staff may contact Campus Card Services or visit their web site at http://www.onecard.iupui.edu/dep. Direct Account Remote Terminals (DART) make it easy for anyone to add additional currency to either card. DART machines are conveniently located in the University Library (near the Reference Desk), Cavanaugh Hall, Inlow Hall School of Law, Ruth Lilly Medical Library and the Dental School.
Both libraries hope the small charge per page will not dissuade library patrons from printing necessary materials, but may help users to think about what they are planning to print. This will reduce the number of abandoned print documents, thus reducing those costs associated with such printing misuse.
Last year, over 4.5 millions pages were printed in the University Library, costing nearly $70,000. Since the libraries do not receive any student technology fee funding for printing, and the minimal charge per page will not cover all costs, both libraries will continue to absorb the majority of the costs involved in providing printing services to IUPUI patrons. Undergraduate student technology fees support the campus student technology centers and undergraduate school units; graduate and professional school technology fees are given to the perspective graduate schools. For more information about the student technology center services and technology fees, visit the technology center’s web site at http://www.iupui.edu/~stc.
Visit the University Library’s web site at http://www.ulib.iupui.edu/printing/printing.html to see printing tips on how to save time and money, and to find answers to frequently asked printing questions.
University Library visitors who have questions about the library’s new printing policy may visit the Computer Consultant Desk (on Level 4), the Circulation Desk or the Reference Desk (on Level 2). Ruth Lilly Art Library visitors may visit the Circulation Desk to obtain answers to their questions. Printing policy questions and concerns may also be emailed to ULPRINT@IUPUI.EDU.
