Acclaimed Mathematician to speak at IUPUI
Mathematician and Rice University Professor Richard A. Tapia, considered one of the 50 most important Hispanics in technology and business, will visit IUPUI May 24 to discuss mentoring ethnic minority students and related issues.
Tapia, known for research in the computational and mathematical sciences, will meet with faculty, students and staff in Room B26 in the Medical Science Building. From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Tapia will talk about underrepresented ethnic minorities. From 1 to 4:30 p.m., Tapia, a national leader in education and outreach programs, will discuss mentoring underrepresented ethnic minority students.
Tapia is the Noah Hardy Professor in the Department of Computational and Applied Mathematics at Rice University in Houston.
Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology magazine included Tapia, the first in his family to attend college, on its 2005 list of the 50 Most Important Hispanics in Technology and Business.
