(R)evolutions of Hope Film Series

In a hip-hop and R & B world dominated by men, female lyricists speak candidly about artists pursuing their passions as female emcees. "Say My Name" presents the personal stories of women balancing professional dreams with the realities of urban life, racism, sexism and motherhood. Screening takes place Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Another series film, "Mother's House," follows three generations of the Moses family living in one of Cape Town, South Africa's most dangerous townships. At the start of the film, 11-year-old Miche represents hope for the future. But as Miche grows older, violence and drugs make their way into her life. Screening is at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Tickets for either film: $9 public, $5 IMA members, free for students with valid ID. This event is co-sponsored by IUPUI Committee on African and African American Studies.
