Call for Poster Proposals - The Twenty-First Annual Joseph Taylor Symposium

The organizing committee of the Twenty-First Annual Joseph Taylor Symposium at the IU School of Liberal Arts invites all students, faculty members and researchers to submit abstracts for poster presentation at the upcoming 21stt annual Joseph Taylor Symposium on February 25, 2010.

The Joseph Taylor Symposium honors Dr. Joseph T. Taylor, professor of sociology from 1965 to 1983 and the first dean of the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI, for his many contributions to the university and the community. This year’s theme, “Voices in the City: Language, Literacy, and Urban Life,” will explore questions about the importance of language in shaping culture.

School of Engineering and Technology to Host Graduate Open House

The Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI will host a Graduate Open House from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, in the 2nd floor lobby of the Technology Building (ET), 799 West Michigan St.

The event includes a 5:45 p.m. presentation by the director of the Richard G. Lugar Center for Renewable Energy who will discuss current energy-related trends, initiatives, and job opportunities in the state of Indiana. The event is free of charge.

Professors Present Research at International Victimology Symposium

When victimology experts met at Tokiwa University, in Mito, Japan, in late August for the 13th World Congress of Victimology, the work of two scholars from IU School Law – Indianapolis, located on the IUPUI campus, was presented.

Professor María Pabón López presented a paper on her research about hate crimes against immigrants in the U.S. The work of Professor Karen E. Bravo on the personhood of the victims of human trafficking was also presented.
