Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society to Hold Annual Election Meeting
The Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society Annual Election Meeting will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, in the Ruth Lilly Learning Center Basement Auditorium, Riley Outpatient Center, 702 Barnhill Drive, on the IUPUI campus.
All AOA members are invited to attend.
Members who would like to volunteer to serve as advocates for candidates should contact Ruth Patterson at 317-278-6302.
AOA is also soliciting nominations for election of IU residents/fellows, faculty and house staff.

Blogs and Business is Topic for Main Street Institute Workshop
Blogs and social media continue to revolutionize the way business is done today as more business owners are taking to the Internet to help grow their operation.
Manjit Trehen, an adjunct professor of computers and business at the IU Kelley School of Business Indianapolis, said the buzz about blogs and business comes from the realization that blogs can effectively reach more customers in a cheaper and cutting-edge fashion.
A Main Street Institute workshop on blogs and business will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 18, 2009, in the IUPUI Library. For additional information, go to: http://www.kelley.iupui.edu.

Free Film Screening on Sept. 17
The public is invited to join the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana for two free screenings of the highly acclaimed film "American Violet" on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009. The first screening takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Wynne Courtroom of IU School of Law-Indianapolis, 530 W. New York St.; and the second screening takes place at 7 p.m. at the Walker Theater.
The movie, based on true events, centers on a 24-year-old African American single mother who is wrongfully arrested during a drug sweep in Texas. The ACLU took on this case and won. Academy Award nominee Alfre Woodard and Emmy Award winner Charles S. Dutton star in "American Violet."

Sports Personalities to Talk Diversity in Newsrooms, Coverage
The Indiana University National Sports Journalism Center, located on the IUPUI campus, will host a free symposium titled "The Diversity Divide: From the Press Box to the Locker Room" at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14, 2009, in the auditorium of the Informatics and Communications Technology Complex, 535 W. Michigan St. on the IUPUI campus.
Panelists, who include former ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith and New York Times sports columnist William C. Rhoden, among others, will discuss the issue of diversity in sports news departments and its impact on coverage.

The IUPUI Campus and Community Present Tour of the Times, Celebrating Forty
Put on your walking shoes and join the Tour of the Times expedition of the IUPUI campus and its community.
Expand your knowledge of the past, present and future of Indiana's urban research campus during a guided walking tour of campus sites on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009. Tours are available every half hour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
As Tour of the Times community partners, neighboring venues invite you to catch a shuttle or walk over for a visit. For starters, you can ride into the Wild West at the Eiteljorg Museum, experience local African American history at the Crispus Attucks Museum, or retrace the filming of "Hoosiers" at the old Wishard Hospital.

United Way Campus Campaign off to a Great Start
IUPUI's United Way Campus Campaign is off to a great start! The campus has already raised $103,585.02 -- 25% of the goal.
The United Way Celebrity Kickoff Luncheon waved the green flag on the campus campaign, with help from IndyCar driver Sarah Fisher. This event raised $4,554 for United Way.
The campus community can support the Campus United Way Campaign with IUPUI Food Service by purchasing a 32-oz plastic Coca-Cola Cup at fountain beverage service stations at the Campus Center Food Court, Mondo Subs or The Docket at Inlow Hall. Purchase the cup for a $3 donation which includes the first fill-up. Subsequent refills are $1 through the remainder of the campaign which runs through Oct. 2, 2009.
Please help the campaign reach its goal of $417,000. Use the E-Pledge link from the campaign Web site at http://www.iupui.edu/unitedway.
