BackPack News

For thousands of children in Indianapolis, the first day of school will be long on excitement but short on supplies. A program called BackPack Attack assists with the collection of necessary school supplies to support these children. The 2009 goal is to provide a half million supplies to the children of Indianapolis and IPS. The drive runs through Aug. 7, 2009. Upcoming events to promote BackPack Attack include: BackPack Attack at Qdoba, on Thursday, July 30, 2009. Fall Yoga Registration Opens in August

HRA Work/Life, Intramural and Recreational Sports, and Student Wellness Coalition partner to bring faculty, staff and students an ongoing series of lunch time yoga classes.

Registrants pay the semester recreation fee and have the opportunity to attend the 12:05-12:45 classes in the Campus Center on Mondays and Thursdays and the Union Building Room 130 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

IUPUI Faculty and Student Honored at Minority Volunteer Recognition Event

Dr. David Suzuki, associate professor in the IU School of Medicine and Asian Pacific Islander Faculty Staff Council co-president, was the keynote speaker at the United Way of Central Indiana Minority Volunteer Recognition Breakfast on July 18, 2009. Suzuki's presentation focused on the "Heart to Serve" theme of the awards breakfast.

At this recognition breakfast, an IUPUI student, Selene Hernandez-Buquer, received the Outstanding Service Award, Young Adult category, for her work with La Plaza, Inc.

Join the IUPUI Food Service on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, for the Local Farmers Showcase in the Campus Center Food Court by Wild Greens. This event will showcase local farmers from Indiana and surrounding states. Stop by and support of your local farms!

IUPUI Surplus Public Auction, Saturday, Aug. 1

The next IUPUI Surplus Public Auction takes place Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at 830 W. 16th Street, Campus Services Bldg #4. The doors open at 8 a.m. with bidding to start at 9 a.m. The vehicle auction starts at noon. Items to be sold include PCs, electronics, medical equipment, office furniture, several vehicles.
