IUPUI Study Finds Fast Food Not a Weighty Problem for Kids

A new study by Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) researchers contradicts the conventional wisdom that living near a fast food outlet increases weight in children and that living near supermarkets, which sell fresh fruit and vegetables as well as so-called junk food, lowers weight.

IUPUI to offer yellow ribbon program benefits to post-9/11 veterans

This fall, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and other Indiana University campuses will welcome their first groups of "Yellow Ribbon Program" veterans.

The Department of Veterans Affairs' Yellow Ribbon Program, a provision of the new, Post-9/11 GI Bill, is designed to cover the costs that exceed an in-state undergraduate education for military veterans. The program also offers additional tuition support for military veterans enrolled in graduate programs or from outside the state.

Enjoy the Taste of Paradise at Caribou Coffee

N.I.T.E. Ride On June 27 to Impact Campus, Downtown Area

Motorists and pedestrians can expect traffic blockages near downtown Indianapolis medical facilities and the IUPUI campus on Saturday, June 27, 2009, as the annual N.I.T. E. (Navigate Indy This Evening) Ride takes place. The bicycling event begins at 11 p.m. June 27 at the Major Taylor Velodrome.

The downtown area blockages will begin at about 11:15 p.m. as riders cross 10th Street from Indiana Avenue and proceed south on University Boulevard.

White Coat Ceremony

Crispus Attucks Dental Cohort: Nine students from the 10th grade dental cohort at Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High School participated in a White Coat Ceremony on May 15, 2009, at the Marten House. This event was the culmination of a seven-month program in which students conducted research on topics such as gum disease, pediatric dentistry, and endodontic therapy. The students were required to write a five-page paper and create a poster presentation. Shown are eight students, cohort leader Traci Adams-Wilson of the IU School of Dentistry (front row, left) and Dr. Kim McElroy-Jones (back row, right).
