Future Faculty Summer Institute Offers Strategies for Success

The Center for Research and Learning and the IUPUI Graduate Office will present the 2009 IUPUI Preparing Future Faculty Summer Institute on Friday, June 12.
The institute, a signature event of the IUPUI Preparing Future Faculty program, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Campus Center.
Participants will hear from and interact with experienced faculty members and other professionals to explore strategies that will ensure successful transitions to careers in the academy or industry.
Keynote speaker, Alexandra M. Lord, branch chief of the National Historic Landmarks program of the National Park Service, will present "In and Out: Preparing for a Career Inside or Outside the Academy."
Graduate students, post docs and junior faculty are especially invited to attend this event.

Patrick Rooney to Lead Center on Philanthropy

Patrick M. Rooney, Ph.D., has been selected as the next executive director of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University following a nationwide search, Charles R. Bantz, Chancellor of Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), announced today.
"Patrick Rooney is the ideal person to lead the Center on Philanthropy into the future," Bantz said. "In this exciting era of new ideas and new directions in philanthropy, Patrick's leadership, research expertise, and passion for improving philanthropy will enable the Center to play a leading international role in philanthropy's future."

Kelley Indianapolis Faculty Member Named Student Supervisor of the Year

Jane Lambert, executive director of academic programs for the Kelley School of Business Indianapolis, has been named 2009 Student Supervisor of the Year for the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
"It was a privilege to receive this award and to be nominated by Madeleine Witt, my teaching assistant. I stand in very good company because the other supervisors who were nominated are an outstanding group of IUPUI faculty and staff," said Lambert, who also serves as a senior lecturer in accounting at Kelley Indianapolis.

Energy Forum
Dr. Larry Kazmerski, executive director of science and technology partnerships at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colo., delivered the keynote address May 29, 2009, at the Indiana Renewable Energy Forum. The Richard G. Lugar Center for Renewable Energy sponsored the event at University Place.

This weekend, June 13 and 14, 2009, "Sound Medicine" radio show host Barbara Lewis and her guests will discuss child booster seats, autism myths and things to consider before joining a clinical trial.

Herron to launch Master in Art Therapy Program
Herron School of Art and Design is excited to announce the launch of a new Master in Art Therapy degree program. Merging the fields of medicine, visual art, and psychology, art therapy uses creative processes of various art forms to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages.
Herron will provide a rigorous, interdisciplinary, two-year, 60 credit- hour curriculum and high quality studio experience. The program will also include a significant practicum requirement, which will integrate the medical community on campus as well as regionally. Pending approval by the Indiana University Board of Trustees and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, Herron is planning for a Fall 2010 start date. Fundraising and curriculum development are both underway.
